Cisco Routers and Switches Types Description

                     Cisco Routers and switches

Router Types Description

The are three types of routers:
  1. SOHO Series
  2. ROBO Series
  3. CO Series
SOHO: SOHO stands for Small Office/Home Office. SOHO routers are model of broadband router which are built and use by small business organization. These are often the same routers that we use for our home networking. Not all routers at our home are not SOHO router because all SOHO routers does not support WIFI.

ROBO: ROBO stands for Remote Office/Branch Office .ROBO routers are used when we want to connect  branch offices site to a central site through WAN implementation. The crucial factor when using a ROBO router is the amount of bandwith needed to support the site. These routers cannot be used at home.

CO: CO stands for Central Office. CO routers are more advanced than ROBO routers and are used in very large organization. The setup of CO routers are very costly and the cost of maintanence is also high.

Switches Types Description

There are three types of Switches :
  1. ALS
  2. DLS
  3. CLS
ALS: ALS stands for Access Layer Switches. These are those switch through which our PC and servers are connected. This Layer is also known as Desktop layer. This layer ensures that packet are  delivered to end user computers.

DLS: DLS stands for Distribution Layer Switches. This layer is used for connecting layer 3 switches as well as LAN based router. This layer is also known as The workgroup Layer. The layer also ensures that the packet are properly routed between Subnet and
VLAN's.

CLS: CLS stands for Core Layer Switches. It is considered as the backbone of the network. This layer connects the high-end switches and high speed fiber cables. This layer does not route traffic or packet manipulation in the network. This layer only ensures speed and ensures reliable delivery of packets.
